Scents can definitely change your mood for the better. They impact well-being in a very powerful way. Our olfactory center (the part of our brain that is responsible for smell) is directly linked to the emotional and memory centers in our brain. When we smell, we literally feel and create memories. No other sense has this kind of impact on the brain. Particular scents can have a very positive impact on our feelings and emotions.

I have always been obsessed with scents. I am definitely a sniffer. I love perfume, lotions, sheet sprays, candles, diffusers, and of course essential oils. I try to use aromatherapy on myself and my family whenever possible. Aromatherapy is a form of alternative therapy that uses essential oils to change someone’s mood or cognitive health. Some of my favorite examples of how I use my essential oils are:

  1. Lavender — place on a pillow before going to sleep. It is calming. I put in on my husband’s wrist and myself before bed. My favorite!

  2. Frankincense — place on the wrist to ease stress

  3. Peppermint — place on sore joints, rub on stomach for stomachache, put on temples for headaches

  4. Lemongrass — use as a mosquito repellent, alleviate stress

These are just a few examples of essential oils and what you can do with them. You can blend them together, you can cook with them, and even take them orally.
